Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo Scheduled for September 2027 Opening

Trunk Co, Ltd announced the opening of Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo in Hokkaido, Japan, scheduled for September 2027. This project represents the Trunk(Hotel) brand’s first venture outside its Tokyo base, which includes Trunk(Hotel) Cat Street, Trunk(House), and Trunk(Hotel) Yoyogi Park. The new property will be located in Sapporo’s Odori district.

Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo will offer 107 guest rooms, comprising 89 standard rooms and 18 suites. The design approach for these rooms incorporates Hokkaido’s local craft traditions and natural materials, presented with a contemporary aesthetic.

Spa and Dining Facilities Detail

The hotel will introduce Trunk(Bath House), the group’s debut spa. This facility will contain 10 distinct bathing spaces. Guests will enter through a reception area that opens onto a waterway, leading into the bathing rooms. Each bathing environment is designed to engage the senses through specific adjustments in temperature, light, and sound.

The spa will include large communal baths, high-temperature saunas, cold-water baths, and open-air relaxation zones. Dining options will feature an outpost of the Sushi Saito restaurant, providing counter seating for guests to observe chefs preparing sushi. An all-day dining restaurant will serve local Hokkaido cuisine.

Event Spaces and Public Areas

Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo will also feature the Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo Lounge & Bar, offering live music, drinks, and dining. An outdoor terrace, complemented by private domed spaces, will provide views of Sapporo and its seasonal landscapes.

For events, the hotel will have three banquet halls: Hinata, a space with natural light; Miyabi, which draws inspiration from historic European halls; and Kodachi, a space surrounded by forestry. These halls are supported by facilities such as a dessert room, a sushi counter, and a terrace equipped with a pizza oven. Additional private spaces available for hire include a multi-function room, a cinema, and a karaoke room.

Implications for Materials and FF&E Procurement

The Trunk(Hotel) Sapporo project demonstrates a continued demand for FF&E and building materials that reflect local craft and natural resources within Asia’s hospitality sector.

Procurement directors and specifiers working on similar projects in Japan or other Asian markets focused on regional identity may look for suppliers capable of providing natural timber finishes, local stone, custom textile applications, and specialized spa equipment.

The emphasis on Hokkaido’s traditions suggests a preference for materials and products that can be sourced regionally or manufactured to specific cultural design briefs. Suppliers of bathhouse fittings, custom lighting, and F&B equipment should monitor the completion of this project to understand the specifications implemented.
