The project centers on the city’s 1888 Custom House building, which is undergoing restoration. This landmark, established under King Rama V, historically served as a gateway for trade. The hotel’s 60 guestrooms and 15 suites will be located in a new contemporary building adjacent to the Custom House.
Architectural and Interior Design
Thai architect Smith Obayawat, Founder and Principal of OBA, designed the new curvilinear structure. This design reflects the river's movement and complements the heritage Custom House. The approach aims to honor the site’s legacy while providing a new purpose.
Inside, the design combines residential elegance with modern comfort, linking historical elements with contemporary craftsmanship. Accommodations overlook courtyards, the Bangkok skyline, or the river. Interiors use natural textures, soft lighting, and subtle Siamese influences.
Sculptural bathtubs, finished in brushed metal, draw inspiration from symbols of prestige from King Rama V’s reign, including coinage and gilded finishes. Geometric etching references rhombus mosaic patterns found in Thai temples and traditional architecture.
Facilities and Public Spaces
The new building will include a Chuan Spa and a fitness center. The fitness center will feature Technogym’s Sandstone collection, which is the first installation of its kind in Asia. The restored Custom House and its adjoining heritage structures are designated as public spaces.
These revitalized buildings will function as gathering areas for guests and visitors, anchored by a collection of dining, drinking, and lifestyle venues.
