Anonym Studio Completes Pridi41 House in Bangkok, Addresses Urban Privacy and Comfort

Anonym Studio designed Pridi41 House on an 800-sqm corner plot in Bangkok, focusing on privacy, natural ventilation, daylight, and thermal comfort. The design elevates main living areas and uses passive strategies like aluminum laths and northern orientation to counter dense urban conditions.

Vertical Organization for Urban Privacy

Anonym Studio completed the Pridi41 House, a residential project located on an 800-sqm corner plot on Pridiphanomyong Road in Bangkok, Thailand. The site sits within a dense residential area, flanked by low-rise housing and a 20-meter-high apartment building. The design organizes the house vertically to manage privacy, natural ventilation, daylight, and thermal comfort.

Service functions, including shoe storage, general storage, a Thai kitchen, system rooms, staff accommodation, and parking for six to eight vehicles, occupy the ground level. This arrangement separates everyday family activities from street views and improves access to surrounding views.

Elevated Living Spaces and Water Features

Main living areas, such as the living room, dining space, kitchen, fitness room, swimming pool, and outdoor terraces, are elevated to the second floor. This elevation helps to mitigate overlooking from the neighboring apartment building. Anonym Studio positioned storage and building services along the southern edge of the house, forming a buffer for the primary living spaces.

Remaining rooms face north, benefiting from more open views and improved daylight. A large outdoor living terrace extends across the second floor, allowing interior spaces to open directly onto planted areas. The swimming pool runs along the living room, fitness room, and outdoor dining area, establishing visual connections and contributing to natural ventilation.

Passive Design for Thermal Performance

The master bedroom faces east to receive morning sunlight and overlooks the surrounding trees and swimming pool. On the western facade, aluminum laths provide solar shading and increase privacy. This screening system is also incorporated into the children’s bedrooms on the fourth floor, limiting solar heat gain while shielding private areas.

The house uses passive environmental strategies to improve indoor comfort. Building orientation, cross ventilation, landscaped outdoor areas, and strategically placed voids work together to regulate daylight, airflow, and temperature.

Perimeter walls and the arrangement of building volumes protect the interior from surrounding views while maintaining visual connections to the landscape.

Implications for Asian Urban Projects

The Pridi41 House project by Anonym Studio demonstrates a design framework for addressing the constraints of dense urban sites in Asia. Specifiers and developers working on similar projects can consider integrating elevated communal spaces, strategic building orientation, and external screening systems, such as aluminum laths, to manage privacy and thermal performance.

The use of planted terraces and water features also shows how landscape elements can support natural ventilation and visual connection within a constrained footprint. This approach offers a reference for balancing openness with privacy and comfort in multigenerational family homes across Southeast Asian cities.
