ASEAN Steel Architectural Awards Finalists

The Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN 2026, presented by BlueScope, has announced 12 finalist projects selected for regional appraisal. These projects represent architectural achievements from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Now in its second ASEAN edition, the program recognizes architectural projects that demonstrate excellence in design, innovation, sustainability, and the creative application of coated steel solutions. The 2026 theme, "Shaping Resilient Futures: Timeless Design with Coated Steel," emphasizes projects that respond to their context while delivering lasting value.

The awards aim to raise steel architectural quality across Southeast Asia by identifying projects that combine aesthetic integrity, durability, innovation, and responsible material use.

Featured Projects Across Four Categories

The 12 finalists span four categories: Commercial, Industrial, Residential, and Institutional, Public & Others. In the Commercial category, finalists include Jakarta Premium Outlet by Pandega Desain Weharima (PDW) from Indonesia, TUAH 1895 by GDP Architects Sdn Bhd from Malaysia, KiN by DesireSynthesis from Thailand, and Can Gio Pavilions by DE-SO Asia from Vietnam.

Industrial category finalists feature Euroasiatic Head Quarter by PT. Pandega Desain Weharima (Indonesia), Nova Organic Office and Warehouse by Atelier of Architects (Thailand), and Pandora Crafting Facility – Binh Duong, HCMC by Archetype Vietnam Ltd. (Vietnam). Appraisal Process and Judging Panel

The finalist projects will undergo the ASEAN appraisal process in October 2026. During this phase, project representatives will present their work to an international judging panel. Each project will be evaluated based on three key criteria: Design Excellence, Innovation, and Sustainability.

The assessment specifically considers how coated steel contributes to architectural quality, durability, climate responsiveness, technical performance, and long-term relevance. The judging panel includes Ar. Geoffrey Croker (fjcstudio, Australia), Ar. Firman Setia Herwanto (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia), Ar. Dr. Serina Hijjas (Hijjas Kasturi Associates, Malaysia), Ar.

Kulthida Songkittipakdee (Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, Thailand), and Ar. Dr. Truong Nguyen Hoang Long (University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).

Awards Ceremony and Industry Insights

The ASEAN winners will be announced at the Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN 2026 Ceremony, scheduled for 20 November 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. This event will gather architects, industry leaders, academic partners, and project teams from across the region.

Beyond recognizing individual projects, the program promotes knowledge sharing and professional exchange among the architectural community in Southeast Asia. For specifiers and procurement teams, the awards highlight exemplary applications of coated steel in diverse project types, offering insights into material performance and design trends.

The event also includes a special recognition for the 60th Anniversary of COLORBOND® steel, noting its use in durable and high-performing architectural projects.
