Event Overview and Scale

Jia CURATED will take place in Bali from August 13-17, 2026, at Pengembak Beach in Sanur. The five-day event focuses on craft, design, and culture, gathering makers, designers, architects, and communities. Over 250 brands are participating this year, marking the largest number since the event's establishment in 2022 by co-founders Budiman Ong, Rudi Winata, and Yang Yang Hartono.

The 2026 theme, "Nature Weave," will explore how natural systems integrate into design and support the interconnected relationship between people, culture, and nature. This annual event provides a platform for observing new directions in regional design.

Key Programs and Participants

Key programs include a focused spotlight on the Philippines and the 360° Design Dialogues talks program, organized by Design Anthology.

The Waste to Wonder 2.0 initiative will demonstrate the transformation of discarded materials, such as Tyvek exhibition roofing, reclaimed cardboard tubes, timber, and packaging crates, into functional exhibition structures, wayfinding points, communal seating, and outdoor furnishings.

Architecture in Scale returns with 25 architectural models from Indonesian and Asian practices, including works from Alexis Dornier, Andra Matin, Chang Yong Ter, Daliana Suryawinata and Florian Heinzelman, Elora Hardy, I Ketut Dirgantara and Yuni Utami, and Kengo Kuma.

Project Benih, a new initiative, supports experimentation and shared learning among artisans and designers from Indonesia, Japan, and Taiwan.

Workshops and Engagement Opportunities

A masterclass, V-Series, will be led by Dutch artist and designer Sander Wassink, presented by method inc. Participants can build a V.8.3 chair using locally sourced Balinese timber and the V-Series modular aluminum system, gaining knowledge of local craftsmanship and material application. Finished chairs can be taken home, with limited places available.

Charmaine Chan, Design Editor at the South China Morning Post, will lead a guided tour of the exhibition on August 15, 2026. Daily cultural events and live music will occur at sunset, featuring traditional dance, contemporary performances, bands, and DJ sets, fostering interaction among attendees.

Implications for Asia's Building Materials Sector

Procurement directors and specifiers in Asia can attend Jia CURATED 2026 to observe applications of sustainable design and material reuse, particularly through the Waste to Wonder 2.0 initiative. The event provides an opportunity to engage directly with designers and artisans exploring materials like Balinese timber and modular aluminum systems in the V-Series masterclass.

The Architecture in Scale exhibition offers insights into architectural approaches from Indonesian and Asian practices, which may inform material selection for regional projects. Attendees can identify new sourcing channels for craft-based interiors and FF&E, especially from Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines, as highlighted by Project Benih and the country spotlight.
