KARANA Habitat Collection Expands Furniture Range

Indonesian designer Hendro Hadinata will launch the KARANA Habitat collection on 15 August 2026 at JIA Curated in Bali. This collection represents the second chapter of the KARANA Collection, which was first unveiled at Indonesia Design Week 2025.

KARANA Habitat expands the original three sculptural pieces—the Kuta Bench, Sanur Lounge Chair, and Ubud Light—into a full range of living and dining furniture. Four new pieces have been added: the Klungkung Sofa, Negara Dining Chair, Negara Armchair, and Negara Dining Table. The material palette for these new designs now includes American hard maple, red oak, and cherry.

American Hardwoods Sourced for New Designs

The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) collaborated with Hadinata on KARANA Habitat. The collection utilizes American hardwoods sourced from forests managed for long-term regeneration. AHEC reports that American hardwood forest volume has more than doubled since the 1950s, with annual growth consistently exceeding harvest.

Over 22 commercial timber species are available from these forests. For KARANA Habitat, Hadinata specifically selected American cherry, red oak, and hard maple. Hadinata stated that each timber species has a distinctive grain and color, and these three species complement one another to create a cohesive visual composition within the furniture pieces.

Bali Exhibition Offers Direct Viewing for Specifiers

The KARANA Habitat launch is part of Studio Hendro Hadinata’s broader presentation at Lintang Pavilion. This joint exhibition, also featuring Studio Aliri, Nusae, and Tradisi, explores architecture, collaboration, and shared cultural practice. Lintang Pavilion runs from 13-17 August 2026 at JIA Curated, Bali.

The KARANA Habitat launch event on 15 August 2026, at Lintang Pavilion, Pengembak Beach, Bali, will include Hadinata introducing the collection and discussing its development. Visitors to JIA Curated are welcome to attend this event and view the new furniture collection directly.

Implications for Asia's Furniture Procurement

For procurement directors and specifiers across Asia, this launch reveals new furniture designs featuring specific American hardwood species. The expansion into full living and dining sets offers more options for hospitality and residential projects seeking these material specifications.

The event in Bali provides an opportunity to evaluate the collection firsthand and engage with the designer regarding material origins and design intent. Buyers interested in American hardwoods for FF&E should note the use of hard maple, red oak, and cherry, and can inquire about their suitability for various project types.
